Eighties icon Howard Jones will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of his first single 'New Song' at the Indigo2 on Saturday 20th September. Jones released 'New Song' in September 1983. The track was what was known at the time as a 'slow burner' entering at 107 and taking ten weeks to peak at No 3 in the UK singles chart. This was followed by a string of worldwide hits including 'What is Love', 'Pearl in the Shell', 'Hide and Seek' (which he performed at Live Aid), 'Like to Get to Know You Well', 'Things Can Only Get Better' and 'Look Mama'. His 1986 release 'No One is To Blame' reached No 1 in the USA. Total album sales now exceed eight million.
After the success and madness of the eighties things quietened down in the early nineties allowing a period of reflection. Around about 1995 Jones career again started moving upward and has continued to do so ever since, helped by a succession of highly acclaimed albums on his own Dtox label including 'Working in the Backroom', 'People', 'Revolution of the Heart' and most recently 'Live in Birkenhead'.
"I'm very lucky to have such a loyal following who have stayed with me through the past 25 years. We recently played two concerts in Malaysia which is a place we have never been to before. To my astonishment 2000 people turned up and sang along to all the hits. We played Australia last year which was the first time we had been back there for 22 years and the same thing happened. This concert at the Indigo2 will be a tribute to those who have stuck with me over the years and will include new material as well as the old favourites",
says Jones.
The 25th anniversary concert will feature Howard on stage for the whole evening and will feature an acoustic section, a synthisiser section and a full electric band section. There will also be some special guests.
This will be a very special concert from a very special artist.
