ICONIC FUNK & SOUL GROUP TO EMBARK ON UK TOUR
The Brand New Heavies, one of the most innovative and influential funk and soul groups to grace the music scene in the last 15 years, are set to make a triumphant return to the UK at indigO2 on Thursday 16th October - their first headline show in two years!
In 2006, The Brand New Heavies re-united with original lead singer N'Dea Davenport for a new album, Get Used To It, which was released to critical acclaim in the USA and around the world. Since then the band have been rebuilding their fanbase through constant touring and promotion, with a large focus on the US market, where they have completed 3 national tours (65 shows) in the last 18 months, including most recently a co-headlining tour with Macy Gray.
The band are getting rave reviews for their live shows and in February 2008 the band did a special performance in Los Angeles during Grammys week, with guests including Caron Wheeler from Soul II Soul, where no less than the purple one, Prince, turned up to watch the whole show, as well as other music stars such as Grammy nominated artists Ledesi and Vikter Duplaix , and Jody Watley (of Shalamar fame).
Emerging out of the London based, acid jazz scene in the late 80's The Brand New Heavies went on to achieve major crossover success in the 90s with global hits such as Never Stop, Dream On Dreamer and Dream Come True, and sell several million records. The band left Warners in 2000, but have continued touring and releasing albums independently ever since. One of the few British bands to actually have ongoing success in the US, the band's enduring appeal has been reignited with US based N'Dea Davenport's return to the group, which has excited fans around the world with her charismatic live performances.
As well as their ongoing touring and promotional commitments, The Brand New Heavies are also enjoying success with on screen music including the US and UK No.1 box office hit movie Happy Feet. Chris Rock's latest movie I Think I Love My Wife and Scholl's Party Feet UK TV ad.
The Brand New Heavies are currently working on a new studio album.
N'Dea Davenport commented "It's been interesting coming back after being apart... it's like riding a bicycle but our different interests since we last worked together now have an opportunity to flourish. We were going in different directions but I think we are now right back where we should be with this new album."
