BIOGRAPHY - Mary Carewe
Mary Carewe's versatility ranges from musical theatre showstoppers and cabaret songs to contemporary music. She has performed under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle, Kurt Masur, John Rutter and Charles Hazlewood. Her now long-established artistic relationship with Carl Davis has led her to sing both 'James Bond'and 'Oscar Winners' programmes with the main British orchestras, the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra, Spain and soon with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Orchestra. Mary is also a regular guest with the RTE Concert Orchestra in Dublin with whom she gives a variety of programmes including 'A tribute to Rodgers and Hammerstein', 'the Music of Leonard Bernstein', 'Divas', 'Showstoppers' and 'Two by Two'. She has also appeared with the Ulster Orchestra, the Odense Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Lille, the Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester, the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, USA and will soon make her debut with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
As a recitalist, Mary frequently performs Serious Cabaret concerts with her pianist Philip Mayers, and has appeared at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris (Kurt Weill), the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam (British music), the Alicante Contemporary Music Festival (which was also broadcast live on national Spanish Radio), the Aldeburgh Festival, Djanogly Hall, Festival de l'Ile de France near Paris, the Louisiana Music Series in Denmark, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, Opera Butxaca in Barcelona and Maison de Radio-France in Paris. Mary has also appeared at the Berlin Philharmonie with Ensemble Oriol and at the Cheltenham Festival with the Matrix Ensemble.
This season, she will give a performance of Schönberg's Pierrot Lunaire at the Cadogan Hall in London and will sing 'Anna I' in Kurt Weill's Die sieben Todsünden as part of the Festival Semana de Música Religiosa de Cuenca and at the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao, Spain in March 2008.
Mary is involved in educational projects and has presented Cabaret songs to hundreds of young audiences in the UK with the ensemble VIVA, with whom she has also given performances nationwide of her 'Viva la Diva' programme, a mixture of Cabaret and Jazz songs arranged for voice and seven piece ensemble. She is a much appreciated teacher giving workshops and masterclasses at UK universities as well as at the Opera Studio of Casa da Música in Porto.
Recording credits include Life Story by and with Thomas Adès for EMI, Britten on Film with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Peter Maxwell-Davies' Resurrection for Collins Classics, The Truth about Love CD for ASV, The Best of Broadway for Warner Classics, a collection of West End, Broadway and Film Music repertoire for Chandos and Silva Screen as well as numerous CDs with both the BBC Concert and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestras.
BIOGRAPHY - Michael Dore
Michael's international career has taken him throughout the United States, including Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Centre in New York, Canada, Europe, the Far East, South Africa and the Caribbean. He has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony, Orchestre National de Lyon, Bangkok Symphony, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, MDR Symphonie (Leipzig), RTE Orchestra (Dublin), Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo and the St. Louis Symphony. Michael appears regularly at the Royal Albert and Festival Halls and opened London's Cadogan Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, returning for their Gala concert of Nigel Hess' Shakespeare music, "Food of Love" alongside Dame Judi Dench and Patrick Stewart. He has since performed this piece at the Henley Festival and Buckingham Palace. He is a regular featured soloist with the BBC Concert Orchestra with whom he has recorded 4 albums and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom he has recorded his third album, "The Best of Broadway". His solo album, "Simply", was released in 2001 to rave reviews.
Some recent appearances have included the "Cathcart Spring Prom" at the Royal Albert Hall, "Best of the West End" at Hampton Court Festival, "Guys and Dolls" at the Royal Festival Hall, "Wonderful Town" in Berlin with Sir Simon Rattle, Berio's "Sinfonia" with the BBC Symphony Orchestra , along with UK tours of "Fascinating Rhythms" and "West End Nights, Broadway Lights". He performed with the London Pops Orchestra for the Rodgers and Hammerstein Galas and his performances at Christmas with the RPO at Cadogan Hall is a yearly tradition which highlights the Christmas album he recorded in 2002.
He has worked closely with leading contemporary composers and conductors including Luciano Berio and Steve Reich and has conducted vocal workshops and masterclasses in Europe, South Africa and North America. He has sung duets with many leading ladies, including Sarah Brightman, Lorna Luft and Dame Diana Rigg and has appeared in numerous Royal Variety performances and Prince's Trust concerts. He was recently the vocal coach on Andrew Lloyd Webbers "Any Dream Will Do" BBC television series, assisting television coach and judge, Zoe Tyler. While not working on the weekly television appearances, he was busy recording soundtracks for some of that season's popular films, including the sequels to "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Transformers" and "Sweeney Todd". Michael just recorded several tracks for Readers Digest in Brussels before performances in Lucerne, Switzerland. He continues to make frequent appearances on BBC Radio's "Friday Night is Music Night", and maintains a busy and varied performing schedule, performing semi-classical, Broadway and Jazz programs and intimate Cabaret evenings around the world.
He closes this year again with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and begins the new year with a tour of New Zealand.
Michael is committed to highlighting the Variety Club mission, "never say no to a child in need" and his "Michael Dore sings the Musicals and more" concert in Johannesburg was for the benefit of their Child Rescue Centre. He recently co-hosted the Iowa Variety Club Telethon and was part of the celebrity cast of performers.
